The Ann Arbor area comes with harsh winters, which throws a curveball for anyone providing mobile detailing services. Most detailer stop entirely where as Mo’s Auto detailing continues to work outdoors for days above ~35°F, and for folks with large heated garages. While a great job can still be done, it is still not ideal as working indoors in the winter still limits the quality of the work that can be done. Poor lighting and cold temperatures prevent really though cleanings and limit liquid extractions. Late 2025 / early 2026 has been a perfect storm for it with how cold it’s been and how often the roads stay salty.
Once temps drop below below ~35°F, its not just the detailer that’s cold but equipment issues start to rise. Pressure washers, water lines and products begin to freeze. Even if the vehicle is garaged, the van often sits outdoors, with the van doors open to access equipment. Although heated gear, space heaters, etc are used the previous limiations create a major bottleneck. Furthermore, glass cleaners, stain removers, and chemical cleaners do not work as well. The windchill outdoors may also prevent the car from drying after washing.
Even when weather seems reasonable at first a drop in a few degrees will lead to rescheduling, making reliable scheduling tricky.
For these reasons it is encouraged that anyone who is not in a rush to wait till late winter and early spring to avoid the harsh winter limitations and get rid of the winter crud once the winter is over. If you are eager to schedule in the winter do not be afraid to reach out though we may have to wait for fairer weather.
While great success has been had in previous winter seasons the winter of 2025/2026 has reduced availability significantly. Moving forward, a bay or shop area will be acquired to maintain detailing services through the winter.
